Shunt Pathway

Families tell us that the experience of getting emergency treatment for children in suspected shunt or ETV failure is not consistent across the UK.  Families’ experiences vary greatly and sadly here at the charity, we have been contacted by many families who report poor care and/or having to fight to be heard.

We have therefore launched the Shunt Pathway Programme.  The aim is to develop a new set of clear guidelines for the management of children in suspected shunt or ETV failure.  Our aim is to get consistency across the UK so regardless of which hospital your child attends the treatment plan will meet their needs and will be consistent with practice across the UK.

We have now set up two groups:

  • A PPI (Patient Parent Involvement) group.  This is a group of  families and charities who represent the views of those with lived experience.
  • Clinical Steering Committee who are working to define the scope of the guidelines, and have now established working group topics, leads, and recruit members.

To get involved with either group and/or share experiences to help further the work please email research@harrys-hat.org
