We decided at the beginning of the year, to take Violet, and our son Jett, to Disneyland Paris. Violet is six years old and has a programable VP shunt for her hydrocephalus. She has had 10 shunt operations so we knew we would need to be prepared but as this is the longest, she has gone without a shunt revision it was a good time to go.  We booked for four days and three nights and stayed on site in the Santa Fe hotel.

We advised her neuro nurses of her trip, so we had the most recent settings for her shunt, researched a hospital near Disneyland Paris with a paediatric neurosurgical department and found Necker Enfants Malades Hospital in Paris which is an hour away from Disneyland Paris.  Then researched travel insurance making sure it included airlifting and transfers for all members of the party and we found it is best to have everyone covered on one policy than separate policies, we took out ours with the post office although more expensive than others it covered everything that we required.

We applied for a Priority Pass before going to Disneyland which if you have an access card or the child is in receipt of DLA you can qualify for this allowed four people plus the person entitled to the card to go on rides, shows and character meets and plus two for the disability areas for the fireworks and parades. It can also be used in food restaurants and take away places with a disabled logo means you don’t need to queue and can go straight up to the counter. The pass allows you to go on rides with limited waiting, this made the trip far more accessible.

We all had a great time!

Love Rebecca.
